this is the WORST
So today while I was playing Portal 2 I realized that you enter an area in the depths of Aperture which was sealed in 1961 (top picture). Once you have entered that area, you then complete testing chambers that are labeled as being constructed in 1978 and 1982 (middle pictures). After escaping the old section of Aperture, you come across a sign saying that the area was condemned in 1961, the same year (and day) as the initial sealed vault door.
So how did they continue research in that section over 20 years after it was sealed off?
I got the idea that the test shaft was sealed off in the 60s because of government investigations of Aperture’s safety. At one point, Cave Johnson mentions Aperture’s involvement in “Senate hearings on missing astronauts” in the 60s, and I’d imagine that to cover up the, uh, whereabouts of said astronauts, as well as to protect the company from future safety investigations, they may have sealed off some of their deadlier test chambers during those investigations. After the media hype died down, they probably secretly opened the shaft back up to continue experimenting, eventually sealing it off again after the modern facility was built.
Can we just take a moment to.. please? Aww..
this is a video that always gives me some comfort and makes me feel more positive about stuff that happens
This is one of the best fucking gifs I have ever seen
